Cape
George is a private residential community located in Jefferson County,
Washington State. It's about four miles west and slightly south
of Port Townsend, overlooking Protection Island, the Strait of Juan
De Fuca, Discovery Bay, and the Olympic Mountains.
The
Olympic Mountains provide a vista to the West and protect Cape George
from excessive rain. Even though ominous rain clouds may hover near,
Cape George only gets about 15" of rain a year.
Cape
George is segmented into three areas, each with their own unique
qualities:
-
The Colony
is
the area of top-end homes. Most of the homes have grand views
overlooking Discovery Bay and the Olympic Mountains or the Straits
of Juan de Fuca and Protection Island. Some have a view across
the Straits of Vancouver Island, B.C., and the night lights of
Victoria.
- The
Village has moderate homes and manufactured homes. Most lots
enjoy views of Discover Bay or the Straits.
- Cape
George Highlands
is on the hill above the Colony and the Village, and while it
has no views of water or mountains, each lot boasts the privacy
of being at least an acre.
Cape
George Colony Club, which is owned and operated by the members,
has numerous amenities. These include a large, enclosed swimming
pool, a marina, a large clubhouse and a shop for the use of members.
Membership is secured through property ownership within any of the
divisions of the club - The Highlands, The Village, or The Colony.
The
Club owns and maintains its own water system and nine miles of private
roads.
There
are over two miles of private beach with clams, geoduck, crabs
and other seafood delights. Discovery Bay and the Strait provide
salmon and halibut fishing and are the home to large spotted prawns.
Beach combing is at its best at Cape George. Glass Beach, where
you'll find a treasure trove of beach glass, is a moderate hike
from Cape George. And the natural treasures to be found at the community
beach at Cape George are always changing, depending on what the
tides bring in.
Cape
George is about more than just sunsets and pretty views. You'll
find a lot more happening at Cape George! There are always lots
of things happening at Cape George. Bridge, Creative Arts, Yoga,
and more.
Of
course, Cape George is on the Olympic Peninsula, so there are lots
of adventures to be had. Shopping or dining in Port Townsend, hikes
and excursions in the Olympic National Park, boating in the San
Juans. And, of course, fishing!
